Bodies in Terrain

DIRECTION

Alex Mendo is an interdisciplinary visual artist working across photography, film, movement, and installation to explore intimacy, queerness, and the relationship between bodies and the natural world. Born in Dallas, Texas, Alex studied in Boston before beginning a career as a software designer in San Francisco. During college, she began submitting films to festivals and was awarded the Social Justice Award in 2014 and Best Editing at Northeastern University in 2016 through Campus Movie Fest. In 2015 she was selected as an artist-in-residence at Nes in Iceland. The pandemic marked a turning point in Alex’s life. As she discovered and embraced her queerness, she left the tech industry and spent a year traveling the world, deepening her photography and filmmaking practice. In 2023, she won the audience choice award for Body Language at the HUMP! Film Festival. Alex’s films have since been recognized internationally across Berlin, Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Vienna. In 2025, Alex was selected as an artist-in-residence at Guiniguada in the Canary Islands and Mountains Residency in Australia.

SOUND

Bernice Yu is an artist and pianist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. A classical pianist by training, she combines refined technique with a curious improvisational spirit to create melodic, evocative, and expressive soundscapes. Her music responds fluidly to the room and the moment, exploring emotional tones that range from contemplative and minimalist, to romantic and dramatic, to experimental and playful. Her practice draws from a wide range of musical influences from contemporary classical music, film scores, and jazz to indie folk, art pop, and electronic music. Other inspirations include nature, love, grief, and the human desire for connection and belonging.

SOUND

Pianist Tin Yi Chelsea Wong’s international career spans a wide variety of performance spaces. Appearances include San Francisco Palace of Fine Arts, Grace Cathedral, Salzburg Wienersaal, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston. An advocate of contemporary music, she premiered many new works across the Bay Area. With a focus on extended techniques, Chelsea Wong invented the Harmonic Capo to create new possibilities for the instrument, and performs on the Liberated Piano. Her new venue Atelier Kromatica in SOMA of San Francisco presents experimental classical concerts, and hosts an annual Piano Beach Bonfire at Ocean Beach, San Francisco. 

CURATOR

Chloe Kwiatkowski is a queer, black, Bay Area–based arts and cultural producer focused on creating community-driven experiences that bring artists and audiences together. Her programming spans performance art, dance, music, film, dialogues, workshops, and interdisciplinary events, with an emphasis on creating meaningful opportunities for artists to experiment, connect, and engage with their communities.

Alongside producing, Chloe is developing an artistic practice rooted in collaboration, embodiment, and interdisciplinary experimentation. A dedicated yogi and meditation practitioner, she explores myth, sexuality, intimacy, ritual, and relationality, using art as a space for connection and transformation. Her work is interested in the stories we inherit, the bodies we inhabit, and the relationships through which we come to know ourselves and one another. Through authentic collaboration, she seeks to create spaces where artists and communities can explore identity, desire, connection, and new ways of experiencing and relating to the world. Chloe has an MA in Curatorial Practice from California College of the arts and is  Senior Program Specialist at SFMOMA. 

MOVEMENT

Sarah Morin is an interdisciplinary artist working across movement, performance, visual art, and community ritual. She trained in ballet for 15 years before moving into contemporary and somatic movement practices, and is a graduate of Tamalpa Life/Art Process Teacher Training, a 550-hour interdisciplinary arts and expressive movement program based in Anna Halprin’s body of work. Sarah’s work explores emergence and surprise: what surfaces when we allow ourselves to move beyond predetermined forms, and how can movement, image, and sound create and capture experiences beyond words? Her practice is rooted in improvisation, exploration, and listening to the body, the unconscious, and the unknown. Sarah is also the Co-Founder of The Nook, an accessible community arts and events third space in San Francisco.
